What are the different types of sessions?

In this article, you’ll learn about each type of session, and how they are used for virtual, hybrid, and in-person events.

There are four different types of sessions

  1. Broadcast

  2. Community

  3. Break

  4. Networking

For Virtual and Hybrid events using ConferenceTap’s live video (not Zoom, Youtube, or Vimeo as a video source), the session type controls how the Live Video works.

  1. Broadcast: This is a live video room where up to 8 people can speak at once, and up to 15,000 people can be in the room at once. This type works well for keynotes. Only speakers and moderators can turn on their camera and microphone - attendees can only view.

  2. Community: This is a live video room where up to 300 people can speak and turn on their camera at once. This type works well for roundtables.

  3. Break: This type creates a block in the calendar for a break (there is no video portion of a break).

  4. Networking: This will create a time in the schedule to prompt virtual users to participate in 1:1 Live Video Networking, where users are randomly matched with other attendees.

For In-Person events, session types only affect what users will see on the schedule.

  1. Broadcast: Use this for sessions where a speaker is presenting to an audience.

  2. Community: Use this for roundtable sessions.

  3. Break: Use this to create a block in the calendar for a break.

  4. Networking: Use this to create a block in the schedule where attendees can networking - you can set a room as well.
